Red Light Series

Turn On The Red Light

Welcome to the darker side of Seacoast Rep. The Red Light Series was commissioned to Keep Portsmouth Weird. Our artist-curated and produced series works to present new, exciting, overlooked, or reimagined performances.

Originated by Knate Higgins and curated by the Mad Men of Oopsy Daisy Inc., Red Light presents adult alternative entertainment, from the critically-acclaimed Mad Haus, to Drag Nights, to our new Red Light Mainstage productions – Red Light is all about doing cool, risqué, and interesting things.

Most Red Light productions are pay-what-you-can at the door. Don’t worry, our artists are contracted and get paid the same no matter what you pay. Got a little extra? Every bit goes back to programming.

2018 Red Light Season:

A New Brain
January 25 – 17

By the Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist of Falsettos and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, here is an energetic, sardonic, often comical musical about a composer during a medical emergency.  A New Brain is a compelling musical tale of one man’s re-birth and art-fueled recovery.

The Rocky Horror Show
July 20 – August 25

We saw you quivering with antici…pation, and so we’re delivering more Rocky Horror in 2018. That sweet transvestite and his motley crew are ready to do the Time Warp again! Don’t miss this cult hit. Don’t forget to dress up.

The Santaland Diaries
November 15 – December 9

The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris is a brilliant evocation of what a slacker’s Christmas must feel like. Out of work, our slacker decides to become a Macy’s elf during the holiday crunch. At first the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa’s workshop, he becomes battle-weary and bitter.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch
December 28 – 31

This groundbreaking Off-Broadway smash tells the story of “internationally ignored song stylist” Hedwig Schmidt, a fourth-wall smashing East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation, which has left her with just “an angry inch.”
