Youth Programs

The Rep offers classes for students of all ages who are interested in theatre, dance, music and creative arts. Classes allow students to hone the skills that are essential to on stage success, including: characterization, movement, vocal technique, memorization, improvisation, auditioning, knowledge of theatre terminology and more!

Creative Critters

Sat. 9:00-10:00am Ages 4-6 $140/Session*

Explore acting, movement, singing, creative drama and self-expression while having fun and making new friends in this supportive environment. Each session is filled with creative play, fairy tales, dress-up, tongue twisters, singing and movement.

Babes on Stage

Actors Laboratory

Mondays Ages 7-14 $140/Session*

This multi-layered acting lab seeks to develop in each young actor a sense of self, the ability to communicate truthfully on stage, a working knowledge of theatre terminology, the ability to dissect a scene and work with a scene partner and an understanding of ensemble and its importance in both theatre and life! Activities focus on character development, improvisation, storytelling, movement, self-expression, self-confidence and more. The three Layers give students the opportunity to work with other young actors of similar age, interest and experience.

Those who wish to register will be asked to schedule an Actor's Lab informal interview so that the instructor can place each student in the appropriate Layer.

Layer 1 Opening Act Mondays from 4-5:00pm

Youth Chorus

Mon. 5:00-7:00pm   $150/Sesson

The Rep's recently founded Youth Chorus is dedicated to providing young singers the opportunity to learn and hone music skills including as vocal technique, sight reading, blending and harmonizing, all in an ensemble setting. Youth Chorus will rehearse and perform a wide variety of music including selections from musical theatre, pop music, seasonal songs, and original works along with a cappella and choral arrangements. Singers will perform in a variety of outreach concerts in the Portsmouth/Seacoast area.

Teen Stage Ensemble

Mon. 5:00-7:00pm   $150/Sesson

Teen Stage Ensemble is for designed actors ages 13 – 18 with a serious interest in the study of both acting and musical theatre performance. Members of the Teen Stage Ensemble (TSE) study acting techniques, musical theatre, vocal performance, movement for the actor, characterization and play analysis while working towards mid-session performances including an Improvisation Showcase and a Musical Theatre Showcase.

Along with the mid-session performances, Teen Stage Ensemble's culminating events include a staged reading chosen by the Ensemble as well as performances on the Rep's mainstage of Man of La Mancha in conjunction with the Rep's professional mainstage season.

Teen Stage Ensemble membership will be by audition and those who participate will make a school-year-long commitment to weekly workshops, masterclasses and rehearsals.
