Audition Information and Requirements
For most Youth Workshop Productions, it is required that you come to the audition prepared with a short monologue or poem memorized, and a song to sing. Sheet music is optional. Bring along a recent photo of yourself and a resume if you have one.

Rehearsal Schedule
Rehearsals are held either at the theatre or at SRT2 (the Grange) located in Kittery, Maine, just 5 minutes over the Memorial Bridge. Rehearsals for Youth Workshop Productions are typically held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm – 6:30pm for a total of 6 – 7 weeks. Not all cast members will be called to every rehearsal. A tentative rehearsal schedule is distributed at the audition. The week before the show opens, there are often additional rehearsals scheduled. A tentative rehearsal schedule will be distributed on the day of auditions.

Performances
Performances times are listed on the 2010 – 2011 Youth Audition Schedule. All actors are called to the theatre 1 hour prior to the performance to get into costume and make-up. Attendance at all performances is mandatory unless otherwise arranged between the parent and the director before the rehearsal process begins. Performances include weekend performances as well as school matinees.

School Matinees
There are two weekday performances for each Youth Workshop Production. You are encouraged to invite your classmates to come see the show! The audience will be filled with students, teachers and chaperones and after each show we will have a Question and Answer period with the audience. Yes, you will miss school. Check in with your teachers and hand in your homework ahead of time!

Conflicts
It is extremely important that we are aware of any and all conflicts prior to the start of rehearsal. Bring your schedules to the audition! If you have conflicts with the rehearsal/performance schedule, it does not mean you will not be cast. However, we do need to make arrangements to have your part covered as necessary.

Casting
For most shows, casting will be complete by the Monday following the audition. All cast members will receive a phone call at home to confirm. Those that are not cast in the show will receive an email. More details are distributed and discussed at the audition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to schedule an audition appointment?
**NEW THIS YEAR** We ask that those that plan to attend a Youth Workshop audition send us an RSVP. This way, we can plan the audition according to the number of youth performers that are planning to attend. Send your RSVP to LNelson@seacoastrep.org. Thank you!

You must make an appointment to audition for Disney’s Aladdin Jr.and Alice In Wonderland. Contact Lindsey at LNelson@seacoastrep.org to make an appointment.

What is the difference between an audition RSVP and making an audition appointment? An audition RSVP allows us to make an “attendance” list of those that we are expecting at the audition. It helps us plan the audition more efficiently. An audition appointment is similar except that you may only be required to attend the audition for 5 – 10 minutes and then return for a dance/group call at a specific time. We will give you your audition time(s) when you email us.

What if I don’t have a recent photo of myself?
Unless the director of the show knows you (and you should assume that he/she does not), we HIGHLY recommend you bring a photo of yourself. Print one from your computer, make a copy or bring in a school photo. Photos are extremely helpful, especially when we get upwards of 50 young people auditioning at the same time. Photos will not be returned.

Where do I find a monologue or poem?
Barnes and Noble has a small selection of monologue books. You can also find monologue books at the library or buy them online. For the younger performers, Shel Silverstein poems work great! You could even recite a poem or part of a short story. Pick something age appropriate and memorize it.

What type of song should I sing?
For the older/more experienced auditioners, sing something from a musical, something that you like, and something that you feel shows off your best abilities. For the younger/less experienced auditioners, sing something from a musical, a song from school, chorus or church or a special song you sing at home. Pop songs are discouraged.

What if I don’t have sheet music?
That’s ok. In most cases we will not have an accompanist for auditions. Plan to sing acapella. Memorize your song, sing confidently and you will be just fine!

Any helpful audition tips?
Speak slowly, loudly and clearly. The folks sitting all the way in the back row want to hear you just as well as the folks sitting in the front row. Use your STAGE VOICE! Come prepared! Memorize your song and poem/monologue. Practice at home or in front of friends and family. Pick a song and a monologue/poem that you like and that you perform well. Smile.
