Our staff has been hard at work planning a great 2017, and we want you to join us. There’s something for everyone: From our award-winning Mainstage, to the Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts, to our adult alternative Red Light Series and some new things. See what we have in store.

Violet

March 10 – April 2

Winner of the Drama Critics’ Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical when it premiered off-Broadway in 1997, and then on to a Tony nominated Broadway debut in 2014 with a revised version, Violet is a moving musical featuring show-stopping anthems ranging from American-roots to folk to gospel. Join Seacoast Rep for a journey across America in pursuit of beauty.

PAPA Workshop: The Yoyo and the Piggy Bank

March 18, 19, 25, 26

Anna’s pal Jackson dazzles her with his bright-green yoyo, inspiring Anna to buy her own. But how? Anna’s mother encourages her to earn the money herself, providing Anna with an heirloom piggy bank for saving (and rattling!) her coins. Neighbors offer paying chores and teach Anna some wicked tricks for the sparkly purple yoyo she wants from Mr. Jones’s store. The colorful illustrations capture the joy Anna feels earning her coins, learning about money, and shaking her humongous piggy bank as she nears her goal.

Join Anna and friends on her journey in this original musical by Miles Burns, based on the book written by local author, Susan Werner Thoresen.

PAPA Presents: Violet

April 6 – 15

Our talented students take on the same challenge as our professional company with Violet, the story of one woman’s quest to be beautiful set against the backdrop of the 1960’s. Facially disfigured from a childhood accident, Violet sets off on a cross-country bus trip to find a televangelist she believes can heal her, and finds friendship and the adventure of a lifetime along the way. Winner of a Drama Critic’s Circle Award for Best Musical and nominated for four Tonys, Violet delights with a variety of musical styles and touching harmonies.
